Toro Japanese Steakhouse in Vero Beach is a family-run restaurant that takes the typical hibachi grill experience to a whole new level. While the exterior may look familiar, the dining experience is anything but. Under the guidance of new ownership and management, Toro has raised the bar in both service and food quality, offering a unique and delightful culinary journey.
The restaurant is owned by a group of five individuals with a shared love for Japanese fusion cuisine. From the moment you step inside, you'll notice the energy and warmth that fills the hibachi grill room. The staff is friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home.
The menu at Toro is extensive, offering a variety of teriyaki, hibachi, and bento box options. We started with a sweet potato sushi roll, which was a crispy and satisfying delight. The miso soup and fresh salad that followed were equally delicious, showcasing the restaurant's attention to detail.
For the main course, we opted for two vegetarian dishes, a steak entrée, and a chicken specialty. The vegetable tempura was an abundant assortment of fresh vegetables, lightly battered and perfectly crisp. The tofu yaki udon was a comforting dish with crisply stir-fried tofu and sautéed onions tossed with thick, chewy Japanese udon noodles.
For meat lovers, the eight-ounce New York strip steak was a standout dish. Lean and thinly sliced, it was cooked to perfection and served with a flavorful teriyaki sauce and crunchy-fresh sautéed vegetables. The bento box was a great variety of tender chicken katsu, tempura vegetables, a California roll, and fried rice, each component well-prepared and satisfying.
Throughout the meal, the staff was professional, accommodating, and genuinely welcoming. They made us feel like valued guests rather than just another table. Toro Japanese Steakhouse may look familiar, but the experience is refreshingly new and well worth a visit.
