The Power of Poetry in Key West's Young Minds
In a heartwarming celebration of creativity and literary prowess, The Studios of Key West recently honored eight exceptional young poets as part of the 2026 Robert Frost Poetry Contest for Kids & Teens. This annual event, made possible by the Jeane and Jessie Porter Fund, not only recognizes the talent of Florida Keys' students but also serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of education and literature in the region.
Unveiling the Winners
The contest, which attracted an impressive 240 submissions, showcased the diverse and vibrant literary landscape of the Keys. In the Kids Division, Kash Neighbors, aged 12, took home the first-place prize, while Cosette Curtis-Pape, 10, and Emmy Mitova, 7, secured second and third places, respectively. The Teen Division saw Taylor Thomason, 15, emerge as the top poet, followed by Molly McKnight, 18, and Jackson Mitchell, 16. Honorable mentions went to a talented group of young writers, including Henry Schnapp, Darel Brenes Perez, Serenity Magee, Hanalei Laitila, Ismael Moreno, and Rachel Stewart.
A Celebration of Courage and Imagination
Michelle Boscamp, associate director of marketing & advancement at The Studios, highlighted the courage and inspiration evident in the submissions. "The vulnerability and imagination displayed in these poems are a true testament to the power of self-expression," she noted.
